Welcome to the Aгуйн баавгайн овог!

Welcome friends!

We are агуйн баавгайн овог, an SCA group out of Trimaris (Florida). Aгуйн баавгайн овог is Mongolian for the Clan of the Cave Bear. Our time period is 15th century (1450s), Mongolia. You can find us under one of the following flags:

Mini-history:

In 1206, Genghis Khan was able to unite the Mongol tribes, forging them into a fighting force which went on to establish the largest contiguous empire in world history, the Mongol Empire (1206–1368). After the fragmentation of the Mongol Empire, Mongolia came to be ruled by the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368) based in Khanbaliq (modern Beijing) and administered as part of the Lingbei Province. Buddhism in Mongolia began with the Yuan emperors' conversion to and dissemination of Tibetan Buddhism.

After collapse of the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty in 1368, the Yuan court retreated to the Mongolian Plateau, marking the start of the Northern Yuan dynasty (1368–1635). By the 15th Century, the Yuan Dynasty ruled the following areas:

The Mongols returned to their earlier patterns of internal strife and their old shamanist ways after the collapse of the Yuan dynasty, however, Buddhism reemerged in Mongolia in the16th and 17th centuries. This is the pattern we portray at SCA events, so you will see a little shamanistic and a little Buddhism mixed together with some Persian, Mongolian, and Tibetan décor/food/music.

Our tents, clothing, and furniture will be a combination of Mongolian gers and deels and Tibetan Buddhist artifacts and chupa. We also try and cook food from the region as much as possible. This site will hopefully give examples of the various types of items we use and some history about them, as well as recipes, arts and sciences activities, and a photo album.

We hope to see you at an event soon!
